"Top 10 Poker Tournament Rules To Remember"

Breaking one of the top 10 poker tournament rules will get you a penalty. Penalties range from sitting out one hand to (at the most extreme) getting kicked out of the tournament.

Even missing ONE hand can make the difference between a dismal payday and a huge one!

Remember and adhere to them.

1. Wait to talk about your cards AFTER action is done. Talking about your cards gives information that players in the hand shouldn’t have.

2. Keep cards to yourself. Even though you may be excited about your cards and want to show everyone your "good fortune" don’t! Especially if the player your showing has cards too.

3. One player to a hand. While your in a hand no one can help you with decisions in regards to your cards and what to do with them.

4. No profanity at the poker table.

5. No criticizing of players or their poker play. Not only does this poker tournament rules keep players words from turning to fists, it helps you too. If a player is playing like dog doo doo do you really want them to start playing like a pro? Making it difficult for you to beat them? OF COURSE NOT! So let them play like dog doo doo.

6. Chips in a forward motion is a bet. This makes sure players aren’t taking "shots" by attempting to manipulate the game.

7. Protect your cards at all times. Players are responsible for their own cards so when the dealer mucks your cards because they’re unprotected you’ll know who to blame (hint: not the dealer!)

8. Verbal statements are binding. Choose your words carefully at the table. If you say "call" stated as a question, you may be held to the call. Its better to ask "did he call?"

9. One oversize chip does not mean a raise unless otherwise stated. Lets say there are three denominations of chips in play a 25, 100, and 500. A player bets 100 but is all you have is 500 denomination chips in your stack. When you call and throw out a 500 chip it’s a call. Even if you did have the other denomination chips in your stack and put out 500, it would be a call unless you said "RAISE".

10. No collusion. This is one of the poker tournament rules that players WILL get kicked out of the tournament for breaking.

The severity of penalties varies depending on the poker room and rule broken.

Any penalty affects your tournament chip stack negatively one way or another.

Stick to these rules and you’ll never go wrong.

Good luck!
