"Omaha Poker: Want To Learn The Game?"
Omaha poker is a community card game played with 2-10 players.
On the deal each player receives four hole cards. There are four betting rounds one before the flop, on the flop, turn and river.
In omaha, omaha high low, and oklahoma you have four cards, this gives you a potential of six two card combinations. Which means that the average winning hand will be higher than in other flop games.
This is a good time to point out that, if you make it to the river in omaha, you can use only two of your four cards to make your hand.
Don't get to the river and turn over K-Q-J-10 when the flop is 9-5-4-3-2, and proudly proclaim "straight!", your hand will
go in the muck quickly and you'll be stuck some money too. Only use two!
Omaha poker tips
What starting hands you play, will be your first omaha poker tips.
You need to decide if your hand is worth investing money into the pot, or a potential pot.
The strength of an omaha hand comes from all four cards working together, not just two or three.
The more two card combinations your four cards make, the more profitable your hand is.
The hand Kc-Qd-Jc-10d (c=clubs, d=dimonds, h=hearts, s=spades) is far better than, As-Ah-9c-7c. There are six different two card combinations in the first hand, Kc-Qd, Kc-Jc, Kc-10d, Qd-Jc, Qd-10d, and Jc-10d. That makes the first hand very strong. The second hand has only two, two card combinations, As-Ah and
9c-7c. That makes the second hand a very weak starting hand.
Hands with big pairs that are suited with your two other cards are playable, like Kc-Ks-Jc-9s. Single pair hands, lower than
J-J will get you in trouble if you flop a set, so stick with big pairs.
An omaha poker tip and part of omaha high low strategies is, if your hand can't make at least four two card combinations, then it's not playable.
There is no guideline to what hands you should play from early, middle, and late positions. Most hands should be played from middle and late position in betting rounds, if it's a very strong hand, play it aggressively.
Omaha poker tips for the flop.
Your hand has to hit the flop to continue.
If your hand doesn't hit the flop solid, someone else did, and unless you're drawing to the absolute nuts, you're drawing dead.
This hand, kc-Qd-Jc-10d on a flop of Ac-Qs-10c is a great hand. Not only did you flop a straight, but you have a re-draw to the nut flush, and two pair.
Although if there is a lot of action on the flop and you hit a full house, it's probably no good.
When starting out, drawing to the nuts should be part of your omaha poker tips. Don't draw at second or third nut flushes, or the low end of straights, you'll
end up losing money.
Flopping a made hand with re-draws is what omaha is all about.
Two people can both flop straights and one person will have a flush draw, while the other person has no re-draws, the person with the re-draw is a big favorite and should play the hand aggressively, for max profit.
If you have a made hand with no re-draws, it can be hard to play. You don't want to put too much money in the pot because your hand can be beat on the turn or river. If there are no draws on the flop you're pretty safe.
If there is a draw on the flop that you don’t have, and it gets there on the turn or river, odds are someone has it.
Almost every time three cards are on the board for a flush or there is a possible straight, someone will have it. That's why it's important to draw only to the nuts.
Starting with four hole cards makes the average winning hand in omaha poker higher than in any other poker game.
So play on the turn and river is about what cards you don't want hitting!
Always bet/ raise with the best hand on the turnand river. Slow down if a draw gets there and you think someone has, and someone probably does have it!
As part of your omaha poker tips, hands should be played based on how many combinations your four cards can make.
Big pairs can be played if they are suited or connected to the other cards in your hand. Only play nut flush draws and nut straight draws, in your early omaha poker career and be aggressive!
Good luck!
