"No-Limit Knowledge Gives You Confidence"

No-limit is a poker format where you can bet ALL the chips in front of you. Basically all players’ chips are at risk at all times. The key is knowing they’re only at risk if YOU put them at risk.

Any poker game can be played in this format but is mostly found in texas hold-em cash games and tournament poker.

Even though you can bet any amount of chips there is some structure to it.

When making a bet you must bet at least the amount of the big blind. In a $1-$2 no-limit game the minimum bet is $2 and the max is how much money you have on the table in front of you.

Raises are straight forward. If you want to raise you must at least double the previous bet or raise.

So in a $1-$2 game a player bets $13 and you want to raise. You must raise to at least $26.

But lets say player A bets $10 and player B raises to $30, what’s the minimum amount you can raise to?

Since player B made a raise of $20 on top of player A’s bet, you can raise $20 more on top of player B’s raise, making it a total of $50 to play. Knowing your options in any situation gives you more control of the outcome (one that favors you!).

In live games all chips and cash you have on the table plays. Some poker rooms only allow certain denominations of money to play while others don’t allow cash to play at all. Know what the poker rooms policy is before sitting at the table.

If you want to add more money to your stack its best to do it before a hand begins.

Obviously this doesn’t apply to online poker and so never have to worry about it.

As mentioned at the beginning of the page ANY poker game can be played in a no limit format, very few however are.

The format translates well to community card and draw poker games. Single draw deuce to seven is played no limit while omaha poker and omaha high low can be played no limit.

Stud poker games don’t play well in a no limit format. When players can see one another’s up-cards it makes it hard to call all-in bets, when its almost CERTAIN one party is beat and will be gambling.

I hope this page gives you insight to one of the most exciting poker formats.

Good luck!
