"Building A Poker Bankroll: Your Path To Poker Success"
Why is building a poker bankroll key to poker success?
A poker bankroll ensures you always have money to play poker.
Think about it this way: if you survived off the money you made from playing poker, you would make sure you ALWAYS had money to play.
Money is a poker players’ tool. Without tools for the job, you couldn’t make money; you’d be out of business!
The business of building a poker bankroll
While in the process, remember that steady wins the race, and the race is a long one. Set a goal and ADHERE TO IT. Keep your goal in sight; so you start the poker bankroll build once, not 10 or more times.
FIRST figure out what structures/betting limits you want to play. This gives you an idea of how much money you need for your poker bankroll. See poker bankroll management to figure out EXACTLY how much you need.
SECOND: start saving money!
Decide on an amount you can save each week or month and save that amount. Play poker once you reach your poker bankroll goal.
NO RISK BANKROLL BUILDERS
Online freerolls are great ways to build a poker bankroll. All online poker sites offer them and entry is free.
There are two drawbacks to this method though.
Freeroll payouts fall on the small side. $50 USD is an average prize pool. First place is around $10-$15 USD. Payouts decline from there. Some payouts are as small as $0.50 USD (this is for last place in the money).
Building a poker bankroll through freerolls will take a while. Which leads to another drawback.
Time spent in a freeroll is around three hours to even make it in the money! The final table (where big payouts are) takes close to five hours.
You may decide that your time is better spent doing REAL WORLD activities to get money for your bankroll.
GET STAKED!
Getting staked is when someone provides you with a bankroll. You and your staker split any profit minus the initial buy-in.
An example is someone stakes you $500. You cash out $700. After you payback the initial $500, $200 is left. The $200 is evenly divided. You take $100 and give $100 to the person that staked you.
Make sure the person staking you understands, they’re inheriting ALL RISK and you will not pay them back. This is the general idea of getting staked. If you can afford to pay them back, you should play your own money, as you can afford the risk.
MICRO LIMITS
Micro limits are unique to online poker. A bankroll of $30 USD is enough to play micro limits. With a little poker bankroll management, building a poker bankroll is within your grasp.
When you’ve built up your bankroll, move to a higher limit! Keep building and moving up. Someday you may have a big enough poker bankroll to play with the pro’s!
Good luck!
