"Beginner Poker Strategies Get You Winning Pots"

Beginner poker strategies are for those new to poker. These strategies are simple and when practiced should yield positive results.

Be selective in the starting hands you play. The majority of cards you’re dealt will amount to zero or little profitability if played. This takes A LOT of patience and practice. Once you’ve played long enough this will come naturally.

Eventually you’ll want to rely on players’ tendencies and hand ranges as a guide for the cards you’ll play. That’s a topic for another page though.

Draw only when you can make the nuts and get at least 3 to 1 on your money.

Play aggressively when you enter pots. Aggressive play gives you two ways to win. One with your cards when you make it to showdown and have the best hand. Second with your bet when all players fold and you win the pot without having to show your hand.

Being aggressive means betting and raising when you think you have the best hand.

Pre-flop is a great time to get aggressive. When you raise before the flop you can thin the field giving your cards a better chance of winning. Another time to show aggression is when you think or KNOW you have the best hand. Raise/bet to get more money in the pot when you think you have a good shot of winning the pot.

Play in position. This means play most hands on the button or 1 or 2 spots counter-clockwise from the button.

beginner poker strategies Most of all try to be the last person to act in betting rounds. This advice applies to community card poker games and draw poker games only as betting rounds in stud poker games can change from card to card.

When you’re last to act you gain a lot of information about your opponents cards. You’ll know when they’re weak (if they check) and you’ll know when they’re strong (if they bet). This allows you to make better decisions. You can fold, bet or raise when the situation calls for it. When playing out of position you’ll have little advantage over your opponents. Its like playing in the dark and you’ll lose more money playing out of position than you would playing the same exact cards in position.

I hope these beginner poker strategies help you win more pots.

Good luck!
