"Winning 5 Card Draw Strategies"
One of your first 5 card draw strategies and the most important, should be which hands you play and in what
position you play them.
All of the following hands are the minimum you need to play from each position.
In the first two positions (players to the left of the blinds) your minimum to open is a pair of Aces or two pair of jacks up or better.
In third position you can come in with kings or better.
Fourth position you need at least jacks.
In fifth position eights or better and in sixth position (the button) you can come in with a pair of fives or better and you can also come in with an ace with another face card.
If you are the first person in the pot with these hands RAISE WITH THEM. You want the most money from your opponents as possible, by raising you will accomplish that.
In the blinds play fives or better, if there is a raise you should consider the position of the raiser and play your
hand according to their minimum raising requirements.
Re-raise with aces up when an early position player raises.
Re-raise a middle position player with kings up and if the button raises you should re-raise with at least a pair of
kings.
On the second betting round, another one of your 5 card draw strategies is to bet your hand for VALUE.
Why check a WINNING HAND when your opponent would have called a bet? It's an unprofitable play.
If you're worried about turning over a losing hand, don't be, it will happen but it's good for your table image.
People will think "They're willing to bet a pair of nines, I wonder what else they're willing to bet?" and they'll start paying you off when you have a monster, don't be afraid to bet! Or raise for that matter!
If you feel you have the best hand raise, you might find out you have a loser when your opponent makes it three bets to go but more often then not you'll make money with this play.
One last word of advice, don't play draws. Well you can play them in the right situation, but it's very rare.
It's best to play them when you're either on the button or one off the button and three or four players have limped in before you.
The odds of making a flush when you have four cards to it are 4.22 to 1 and the odds of making an open-ended straight are 4.88
to one. You want the pot laying you at least 5 to 1 to draw at a four flush or open-ended straight, if it's not, don't bother playing it.
I hope these 5 card draw strategies help you win some nice pots!
Good luck!
